A beautiful journey on the river
Kwun tong is rejuvenating as it’s old stories gradually fade. Factories are being revitalised into hippy art and crafts studios.
Waterfront promenade has become a green park filled with sports and leisure activities. Yue man square is being demolished and redeveloped. Many projects are under construction while old structures are being torn down. It is embarking on a journey of creating new memories. Kwun tong will not be the same.
“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.” Heraclitus, an ancient Greek philosopher once said.
The sinuously continuous bookshelf represents the change. It is full of refreshing stories which awaits to be read. Upon reading, our children will change gradually, like our ever-changing urbanscape.
It is a beautiful journey on the river. Pages turn like the scenes, stories unfold along the way. A good voyage is full of surprises and paints our children with colourful memories. And most importantly, we, the parents of the young souls, are growing with them all along.
The Interior Design for the Hong Kong Public Libraries aims to create an engaging experience and fun spaces for the library users.
Engaging the Community
Our studio have carried out an interactive public consultation to seek ideas from the user (children of course!) and to inspire them to imagine their ideal library.
The public answers questions on the boards through placing stickers to vote for their ideal library. They are also encouraged to write down their wishes, suggestions and opinions for their ideal future library.
Children are encouraged to draw out their ideal library on a given canvas of the existing library. Colour pens and stickers in the form of bookshelves and other library facilities are provided to unleash their creativity.
